Volunteer Opportunities

#GivingTuesday

On November 28, 2017, people around the world will come together to celebrate and encourage giving—on #GivingTuesday.

Everyone can get involved, giving back in a way that is meaningful to them, giving time or expertise, monetary donations large or small, food or clothing, or simple acts of kindness.

We hope you will include Friends of Gateway Green in your giving plans.

IMMEDIATE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Do you like to organize small events? FoGG needs someone to help organize a small volunteer work party in December, or early January—to put up temporary directional signs in the Gateway area. Volunteers are also needed to install the signs.

Is planting more to your liking? FoGG is planning a work party, tentatively set for President’s Day (Mon Feb 19), to plant native seedlings in the wooded area at the park.

Computer saavy? Experienced using MailChimp? Fuel? We’re looking for individuals who can help with our newsletter (MailChimp) and our website updates (FUEL). If you’re not able to help on an ongoing basis, can you provide training for board members and volunteers on how to use MailChimp and/or FUEL?

FUTURE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Friends of Gateway Green (FoGG), established in 2009 with a focus on getting the park built, is now in transition. With Phase 1 construction completed and the park open for use, FoGG is changing from an organization focused on park design and fundraising, to an organization focused on programming. To accomplish this, we are creating a volunteer program, and a volunteer data base. There will be numerous volunteer opportunities as part of this transition.

  • Committee Members.  FoGG, has created several committees, and will be seeking talented people to serve on them. We’ll post detailed descriptions of each committee soon.
  • Work Party Participants.  There will be opportunities to help with “hands on” activities in the park – keeping invasive species under control, removing trash, maintaining the bike trails and more.
  • Activity Leaders/Assistants.  FoGG will be sponsoring two major events at the park in 2018—one with a focus on bicycling activities, another with a focus on running and other non-bike activities. we’ll need folks to help with a variety of activities before and during the events.

We’ll be posting more details on #GivingTuesday. In the meantime, if you’re interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, please complete our on-line Volunteer Interest Form, and we’ll contact you when opportunities arise.
