Born in Portland and a resident of east Portland for more than 35 years, Linda is a community organizer with a passion for ”meaningful civic engagement”.  Early experiences as a founding member of the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and her work with the Naturescaping for Clean Rivers Program, demonstrated the importance of citizen involvement – the earlier, the better. While Linda has many volunteer interests (the airport, urban renewal, local elections, water quality, tree preservation, invasive species), her work has focused on parks.  As a founding member of the East Portland Parks Coalition, she has spent many hours advocating for east Portland parks and open space. Linda, who is retired, chairs the Parks Committee for the Hazelwood Neighborhood Assn and the Parks Subcommittee for the Gateway Urban Renewal area, and was recently appointed to the Portland Parks Board. In addition to chairing the Citywide Parks Team for more than four years, she served on Metro’s Greenspaces Policy Advisory Committee and spent countless hours on Metro's successful bond measure campaigns.  Another focus is “community building” – creating places and events that bring together diverse groups, e.g., the Concerts at Ventura Park and a Community Garden at the Hazelwood HydroPark.  When not doing volunteer work, Linda enjoys gardening, quilting, photography, and birding.
